Helios Power Trading's strategic market entry initiative led them to Time2Market. The project encountered many challenges, but the outcome was remarkable.

Helios Power Trading was among Time2Market’s first clients, back in January 2023. Hence, when Helios’ CEO contacted Time2Market, both teams were eager to begin the collaboration.

Ten days after the initial consultation, the project was set into action.

Who is Helios Power Trading?

Helios Power Trading is an ambitious energy trading company based in Denmark that supports renewable energy distribution and market efficiency through trading power on European energy markets. As a team with tremendous growth potential and a clear strategy, Helios reached out to Time2Market with the goal of staying focused on their daily activities while Time2Market’s team handled the market entry application.

What was the challenge?

As early as the scoping stage of the project, the goal to fast-track Helios’ market entry was made clear. Furthermore, to ensure smooth post-entry activities, synchronizing internal and external processes was a top priority. Establishing such internal synchs required a lot of dedication from all Helios employees, who are a part of the trading operations in the target market.

On the other hand, when establishing external synchronization, it was imperative to ensure that all target market counterparties were aligned, all regulations were followed, and all documentation was up to date.

Such processes are fundamental when aiming to create the efficient long-term setup Helios was looking for.

How did we gain market entry to Helios’ desired market?

Stage 1: Market Scoping

Time2Market’s collaboration with Helios commenced with an in-depth introductory discussion, during which we mapped out their existing activities, including their BRP status, exchange and clearing house memberships, technological capabilities, and company setup. This, in turn, laid the foundation for a focused approach toward the client’s target market.

With a clear understanding of their strategy and a complete overview of their setup, a tailored scope for the market entry process was created. By utilizing current memberships and licenses, Time2Market’s team could provide the quickest and most efficient entry, both in terms of current and future activities.

Stage 2: Onboarding

At this stage of the process, a thorough collection of documents, information, and key details is essential for a time-effective and focused application process. By gathering the bulk of necessary documentation upfront, Time2Market ensures a seamless and efficient collaboration.

To facilitate the onboarding process on the target market, Helios’ case and documentation were expedited toward the relevant counterparties. Based on the counterparty procedure, an operational way of signature signing was established, allowing for a streamlined process.

Difficulties along the way

In every market entry process, there is a distinct hurdle in the way of success. In this case, the cultural differences between the target market and Time2Market’s work approach resulted in considerable delays  . The counterparties in Helios’ target market operated at a more leisurely pace, which occasionally led to inconsistencies in communication. The digital certification process, which Helios was required to undergo, was delayed by multiple weeks, yet Time2Market succeeded in getting the market up and running within the anticipated timeline. Originally being signed with a four-month deadline, Helios’ market entry was executed within three months of being set in motion. A  proactive employee at the counterparty’s office luckily intercepted our email and gave us a call right away, instantly clearing the issue.

The overcoming of such issues, usually posed by local authorities’ outdated systems, always relies on continuous and open   dialogue with the client and all local counterparties. By engaging our professional network, including 3rd party service providers, Time2Market ensures that all legal documentation is thoroughly drafted and expedited for review and signatures. The attention that is paid to the smallest of details significantly lowers the risk of prolonged applications and further delays in approval.

Stage 3: Market Continuity

After Helios was onboarded on the new market, regular checkups with counterparties were necessary to guarantee seamless market continuity.

Time2Market’s team provided a robust framework for Helios’ function as an active market participant through strategic partnerships, careful joint planning, and continuous dialogue. With a seamless market entry, Helios Power Trading could focus on its core trading activities with confidence and efficiency.

What did the collaboration achieve?

The outcome of our collaboration was a completed market entry process of just nine weeks. Christian, the CEO of Helios Power Trading, called us that same morning to share the joy of making their first official trade in their new market.

We felt the power of their success and satisfaction in our bones. And if you’ve ever wondered where our slogan “Our clients’ success is our success” came from, that call was what cemented it into our core identity.

After the onboarding was complete, Eszter Pontenagel sat down with Christian Andersen and asked him why Helios Power Trading chose to outsource their market entry with Time2Market. That short interview can be seen below:

“We have the ambition to cover even more markets and regions across the globe, and in order to do that in an effective way, we have decided to partner up with Time2Market, which can ensure that everything is done in a very effective and professional way. There are two reasons for us deciding not to do all the market onboarding on our own: it enables us to spend our time and focus on developing our core business model and to ensure that we cover every aspect of the onboarding process to comply with all local requirements.” — Christian Andersen, Equity Partner & CEO of Helios Power Trading

“We at Time2Market are proud of our collaboration with Helios and are extremely grateful for their willingness to share their case publicly with our audience. We look forward to what the future of our relationship is going to look like.

If you, like Helios, would like to outsource your market access and be able to give your full attention to your trading activities, do not get in touch with us. We deliver. You excel.” — Eszter Pontenagel, Founder & CEO of Time2Market
